with Kelly King & Heloisa Escudero
- Thursday, October 20, 6:30-8:30pm
Please join Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery for a memorable night of not one, but TWO performances by the District's most innovative and thoughtful artists.
HELOISA ESDUDERO - Select by the Translated Movement:
The idea for this performance originates from observing people's body language on the subway in NYC who are really into their music. I am mesmerized by their head bopping, their feet tapping, and in some case just full out dancing that occasionally happens in public. At times I observe their body language and try to figure out what song they were listening to that is creating such a spontaneous reaction. This subway guessing game kept my rides interesting for me. Select By The Translated Movement is a performance in the form of interactive audience trivia. I become the person in the subway who is dancing to Prince and Bowie's music and the audience becomes me.
KELLY KING & CONTRADICTION DANCE - Thrive:
Thrive is a dance-based reaction to the visual art of LIFE SOUNDTRACK: Prince - Bowie &... A Visual Response to Musical Loss. Kelly King and Contradiction Dance abstract the product of others' grief, sorrow, joy, and remembrance made material and add our own raw, visceral, elegant dancing bodies to create an intimate, live performance demanding that we all do as these musical legends did when they were alive - THRIVE.
