Cooking for People With Cancer

When you’re living with cancer, what you eat matters. This fun and informative class is a great place to start learning about the role of nutrition in cancer care. Participants will learn the basic principles of healthy and delicious food selection and preparation.
The class will begin with tasty appetizers followed by a lecture on the basic principles of selecting healthy food and a demonstration on how to build flavor in a dish. The class will conclude with participants seeing and tasting a “balanced plate” of colorful, beautiful, nourishing, and delicious foods.
At this class you will learn:
- The Eight Principles of Healthy Eating
- The known relationships between food and cancer
- How to create your own balanced plate at home
- How to choose foods at the grocery store and farmers' market
- How to build flavor to turn a healthy dish into a delicious dish
- Laura's secrets as you leave with recipes to make at home
- Tips to make preparing and eating your meals more enjoyable
Come learn how to make and sample some of Laura’s most delicious seasonal recipes.

About Laura Pole
Laura Pole, RN, MSN, comes with a diverse educational background including a Masters degree in nursing, chef certification and professional music training. For over 20 years, she has been merging her careers as a health supportive chef, professional musician, oncology clinical nurse specialist, and a palliative care educator. Laura serves Smith Center in several ways: Director of Nourishment Education Programs, Director of Professional Trainings in Culinary Translation and Co-Creator/Coordinator of Patient Navigation Trainings. Laura is also on faculty for the nationally acclaimed Cancer Fighting Kitchen workshops.
