with Rebecca Wilkinson, MA, ATR-BC
- Saturday, June 22, 10am-3pm
Come explore the summer solstice, a peak moment that is both a celebration of the longest day of the year and a tipping point as the days get shorter and the nights get longer and we move toward the inevitable winter.
In this workshop, we will use altered books, an art form where old books are recycled into new works of art, to reflect upon the meaning of this time of transition and mindfully reflect upon where we have come from, where we are at this moment, and what we wish to create as we move forward.
In altering a book, we might draw or paint on the pages or the cover of the book. We might collage the pages, use stamps, or add stickers. Using mixed media - books can be adorned with fabric, leather, beads, wire or found objects. Techniques such as cutting out niches, making pockets and doors, transfers, texture building will be presented.
Previous art experience is not needed in order to benefit from this arts, healing, and creativity program. The workshop is designed for all ranges of artistic experience.
All materials will be provided. (A selection of books to alter will be available. If you have a book that you are already in the process of altering, you are welcome to bring it.)
Please note: Registration is required for this program.
