Book of the Month:

My Grandfather's Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge and Belonging
By Rachel Naomi Remen

Beyond Books

In this monthly book club, participants will select the overall themes and books that they are most interested in: whether it's a book on living with cancer, a poet's exploration of life, a guide to integrating the arts and healing, or a novel with themes of strength and survival. We will share opinions, experiences, and hope in a supportive, facilitated environment that encourages input from all. Feel free to bring your lunch to enjoy during our lively conversations.

Past selections have included:

  • Writing as a Way of Healing: How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives by Louise DeSalvo
  • The Anatomy of Hope by Jerome Groopman
  • Living Downstream: A Scientist's Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment by Sandra Steingraber
  • No Death/No Fear, poetry by Thich Nhat Hanh
  • Stranger in the Village of the Sick: A Memoir of Cancer, Sorcery, and Healing by Paul Stoller

Our programs are open to the community, and tailored to meet the needs of people affected by cancer. Classes and workshops are free or low cost on a pay-as-you-can basis, ensuring that our programs are accessible to everyone.

Please RSVP to help us plan.

About Kiersten Gallagher

Kiersten Gallagher is an avid reader and has been studying wellness for over three decades. It was five years ago, when Kiersten was introduced to teaching people who are affected by cancer, that she landed within a community that was looking for meaning and hope in an unfair world. Working with an extraordinary group of people has given Kiersten a new perspective, deep gratitude every day, and hope that healing is possible even when the odds feel like they are against you. Kiersten strives to facilitate a comfortable, healing environment that helps participants gain new insight into themselves and the world we live in through reading, reflection, and discussion.
