With Rebecca Wilkinson, MA, ATR-BC
- Monday, April 22, 6-9pm
In honor of Earth Day, this workshop will explore the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi. Wabi-Sabi is the art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. It reminds us that we are all but transient beings on this planet - that our bodies as well as the material world around us are in the process of returning to the dust from which we came. Through wabi-sabi, we learn to embrace liver spots, rust, and frayed edges, and the march of time they represent.
In this creativity workshop, we will create recycled sculptures as homages to the transcience and beauty of human experience, using found objects, boxes, and a delightful assortment of art supplies. Attendees will be invited (but not required) to bring old trinkets and objects that they would like to recycle and share with others (shells, old costume jewelry, stamps, beads, felt, feathers, interesting materials, corks, game pieces, etc.).
Previous art experience is not needed in order to benefit from this arts, healing, and creativity program. The workshop is designed for all ranges of artistic experience - you need not consider yourself an artist to attend.

For those in need — Free programs and Scholarship
We aim to offer free and low-cost programs, affordable to anyone who would like to participate. If you would like to attend a program, but find the cost to be a barrier, fill out a scholarship request form or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Full or partial scholarship assistance is available for most programs.
For those who can give — Donations
As a nonprofit, we rely on your support to keep our programs going. Registration fees cover less than half of what it costs to provide our programs. If you're able to give a little extra (or a lot), it will help ensure that all who are in need of Smith Center's resources will receive them.
It’s easy to add a secure donation during your registration process at the top of the "Checkout" page. We thank you for your support!
