- Thrusday, February 19th, 6:30pm
Join us on Thursday, February 19 at 6:30pm as we welcome contributing artist, actress, writer, Butoh dancer, and choreographer Dawn Saito as she performs an excerpt from "Suns are Suns," her multidisciplinary theater piece about a trafficked woman.
This dynamic performance will brilliantly compliment our current exhibition Bought & Sold: Voices of Human Trafficking. The exhibition, which was done in collaboration with ArtWorks for Freedom, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to use the power of art in the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking, features photography by Kay Chernush and an installation by Barbara Liotta. Through this eye-opening exhibition we hope to transform public attitudes, inspire anti-trafficking action, and give voice to survivors. The aesthetic allure of Chernush's striking images draws the viewer in; each layered, constructed image reveals the story of a survivor of human trafficking.
Buy Art, Not People.
Bought & Sold: Voices of Human Trafficking will be open from January 9 - March 7, 2015. Join us at the Opening Reception on Friday, January 9th from 7-9pm. Also, join us for an engaging Artists' Talk on Saturday, February 7 at 3:30pm with guest curator Kay Chernush and installation artist Barbara Liotta.
All artwork will be available for sale during the exhibition, with proceeds supporting the artists, ArtWorks for Freedom, and Smith Center's cancer support programs.
