Kiersten Gallagher, RYT 200 and Certified Herbalist has studied yoga for over 25 years. Over the last decade, Kiersten has developed yoga programs and has provided a place for healing in the cancer community, in underprivileged neighborhoods, for special needs children, for teens and adults with drug addiction and for those struggling with body image.Kiersten invites you on a journey of healing to help guide you to a place where yoga will make a real difference in your life.  Kiersten’s goal for you is that you feel better when you leave class- mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually, than you may have felt when you stepped through the door to begin your practice.

Alaina Sadick Goss, RYT-500, draws inspiration from more than a decade of study and practice with gifted teachers from around the world. She has completed hundreds of hours of training in various styles of yoga and its therapeutic applications with a particular focus on healing in the face of cancer. Her gentle, approachable style includes mindful asana, meditation, and pranayama with an emphasis on natural flow and integration. In addition to her weekly public and private classes in DC, she has taught abroad though Anahata International, an organization committed to bringing yoga and other wellness services to communities affected by conflict around the world. With dedication and an open heart, she is honored to share the transformative power of yoga with those affected by cancer and stress at Smith Center.

Beth discovered yoga in early 2002 as a mother of six month old twins. She was looking to get back into shape after their birth. In yoga, she found far more than she anticipated- an age old practice designed to help people relieve stress- both mental and physical. After a few years of regular practice, she knew she wanted to share her positive experiences with others. She has been leading yoga classes in the DC area since 2007 after completing her 200 hour yoga teacher training at Nth Degree Yoga with Martha Rosen. In 2011, she went back to earn her RYT500. Her personal practice is inspired by Integral Yoga and Sivananda Yoga, both of which incorporate body and mind into the practice.

Yoga & Stress Reduction

Please join us for a class which draws largely from Sivananda Yoga and Integral Yoga.  The two schools take an integrated approach to yoga, incorporating both the mind and body into their practices.  Mentally, we focus on relaxation and work toward stilling the mind to reveal our true natures of peace and contentment.  Physically, we follow a set sequence of poses to first warm up the body, and then to encourage strength and flexibility.  Like many other schools of yoga, the series is the same each time to encourage a meditative quality to the physical as well as the mental component of the class. All levels welcome.
