July 5- August 26
The Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery will be presenting the remarkable works of Mary Edna Fraser. Rising Tides will feature several of Fraser’s masterfully-made batiks, a form of Eastern textile design predating the written word, depicting Mary Edna Fraser’s perception of various threatened regions of the globe.
Fraser is known for her monotypes, aerial photography, and large scale batiks on silk. An international traveler, Fraser works collaboratively with artists, geologists and scientists, teaching, lecturing, and adding to her extensive collection of artworks. She takes advantage of not only her family plane to produce her aerial photography, but she also draws inspiration from satellite images, maps and sailing charts; all of which are the artistic foundation for her batiks on silk. Her unique approach to batik includes painting rather than washing dye onto the silk. Rising Tides serves as an artistic documentation of the world’s changing climate and environment.
