This program is jointly presented by Family Circle by Elizabeth’s Smile (an initiative of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center), MedStar Health, and Smith Center for Healing and the Arts.
Being a parent with cancer is tough, and talking to kids about it can be overwhelming. In this workshop, we’ll look at these challenges and how you can support both yourself and your child when dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Key topics include:
- Adjusting conversations to fit your child’s age and understanding
- Building trust to encourage open and honest talks
- Recognizing and supporting your child’s feelings during hard times
The program will include a presentation and a Q&A session, so please bring your questions and feel free to share your experiences of talking to your child about cancer. Participants will leave with practical tips for enhancing communication as well as a curated list of valuable resources available both locally and nationally.
This program is offered virtually via Zoom and is open to any parent or extended family member who wants support in how to talk to kids about cancer.
Thank you to the generosity of donors and sponsors who make this program possible.
