With Charity Sade
In this 6-week course with instructor Charity Sade, young adult cancer survivors will learn how to prepare, polish and perform a five-minute comedic storytelling piece or stand-up comedy set by working on timing, delivery, story structure, and comedy writing.
Each week, the class will be led by Charity Sade, and a guest comic, who will run through writing exercises, performance skills and techniques (e.g., how to hold a mic, where to stand, etc). The attendees will also get the opportunity to “workout” their material during each session, with guided feedback from the instructors and their peers. At the end of the course, there will be a comedy showcase on April 11 featuring the class members. This event will also raise funds for the Smith Center’s DC Young Adult Cancer Community programming.
*Note: There is a required registration fee of $45 to enroll in this course and enrollment is limited to 12 participants. Classes begin on Sunday, February 24th and are weekly on Sundays for 6 weeks from 2:00-4:00pm. The final class is Sunday, March 31st. Participants are expected to participate in all six classes and to perform at the comedy showcase (Date TBD).
