Location: Great Falls Park, Potomac, MD

The event will run until approximately 1:00pm (we plan to finish the hike around Noon and enjoy a picnic lunch for an hour).
Join other young adult cancer survivors for a morning of hiking in Great Falls Park, in Potomac, Maryland. The hike is suitable for all levels and will end with a bring your own picnic lunch – so pack something delicious (we’ll have a cooler to store it). Plan to wear comfortable walking shoes, athletic pants, and non-cotton layers. Bring plenty of water and a hat and sunglasses for added sun protection. For those who want to hang out a little longer, we will share more fun times at a coffee shop or restaurant nearby. Information on where to meet will be shared after registration.

Both newcomers and First Descents Alumni are welcome.

This program is co-hosted by the First Descents DC/Baltimore Tributary. First Descents is a recognized leader in outdoor experiential programming. Through outdoor adventure, skills development, and local adventure communities, FD improves the long-term survivorship of young adults impacted by cancer. The Cherry Blossoms won’t be in bloom but the Tidal Basin is still a great place to visit any time of the year.  The 2.1 mile loop around the Tidal Basin will take us around The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Washington Monument.  So much nature and culture to see!

Looking forward to our first Walk-n-Talk at Rock Creek Park.  We will begin our walk from the Nature Center and hike Rapids Bridge, a 2 mile loop that is rated easy.

Rapids Bridge 2 Mile Hike

Overview:  This 2-mile loop hike takes you through the forest and then
parallels the scenic whitewater section of Rock Creek before heading back
uphill towards the nature center.

The island is a memorial and wilderness preserve with plenty of flora and fauna and views of Georgetown and Arlington. The hike is suitable for all levels and will end with a bring your own picnic lunch – so pack something delicious (we’ll have a cooler to store it). Plan to wear comfortable walking shoes, athletic pants, and non-cotton layers. Bring plenty of water and a hat and sunglasses for added sun protection.

The event will run until approximately 12:00pm (we plan to finish the hike around 11am and enjoy a picnic lunch for an hour). For those who want to hang out a little longer, we will share more fun times at a coffee shop or restaurant nearby.
