Lauren Broschak, LCSW, LICSW

Lauren Broschak, LCSW, LICSW, is a clinical social worker licensed in Virginia and Washington, D.C. She is the owner of Kindroot Counseling, where she specializes in sex and couples therapy, particularly for those navigating the impact of cancer and chronic illness, as well as concerns related to women’s health and young adulthood. Lauren earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan, along with certificates in sex therapy and sexuality education through the university’s Sexual Health Certificate Program. Her career has focused extensively on health and oncology social work, with experience spanning community clinics, long-term care, and nearly a decade in cancer centers. Throughout her oncology career, Lauren has developed programs addressing survivorship, sexual health, and the psychosocial needs of people affected by cancer. She led an interdisciplinary team in developing and launching an Oncology Survivorship Clinic and has designed and coordinated survivorship and sexual health programming for patients and survivors. Today, Lauren provides individual and couples therapy through her private practice and facilitates support groups for people affected by cancer. She is also an experienced educator and speaker, having presented more than 35 educational sessions across the U.S. for social workers, healthcare providers, and people affected by cancer. Her teaching has focused on topics including cancer and sexuality, relationships and intimacy, young adulthood and cancer, mental health, and survivorship. Lauren is also a published author, contributing a chapter to the Hospice Foundation of America’s 2020 book Sexuality and Illness, exploring the intersection of sexual health and serious illness. She served for five years as Co-Chair of the Adolescent and Young Adult Special Interest Group within the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) and currently serves on the Board of Directors for After Cancer, a national nonprofit working to advance the standard of care through education for oncology providers on screening for sexual health side effects.
