Creative Collective

Join us for “Creative Collective”, an inspiring creative ‘break’ from the noise of day-to-day. Denise Feldman, a local mixed-media artist and cancer thriver, hosts this quarterly gathering in (virtual) community sharing her casual, creative approach to relaxing expression. In each quarterly workshop Denise will share a new project and demonstrate the processes she uses to create, including her tips and techniques for use creativity as a healing practice. No experience needed, and all are welcome!

Workshop 1: Prayer Flags
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. It’s believed that the prayers and mantras on the flags will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion to us all.

Join local mixed media artist, Denise Feldman, as she shares techniques for creating your own multi-layered prayer flags to carry the blessings and wishes we hope for ourselves, our families, our communities, and the world.

Hang your prayer flags on a porch or balcony, from trees in your yard, give them as a birthday gift, or use as decoration in our own homes—anywhere your intentions can be carried by the wind and air to spread hope and compassion to all.

Suggested Materials:

– 5-8 feet of strong string, ribbon or yarn
– Old papers, children’s artwork, coloring pages, journal pages, etc. (note these will be cut and ripped, so nothing that is ‘precious’ to you)
– Scraps of ‘stuff’ that would otherwise be thrown away
– Magazines for cutting out words or phrases (optional)
– Stapler and staples

Other Materials You May Want to Use:
– Water color and paper, paint brushes
– Scraps of fabric, yarn, string, felt, ribbon, etc.
– Beads, charms, or other add-ons
– Permanent marker, any color
– Needle and thread or embroidery floss (optional)
– Hole punch (optional)
