Volunteer Opportunities


Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Smith Center for Healing and the Arts! There are a variety of ways that you can contribute to our mission and impact the lives of individuals affected by cancer. Many of our volunteer opportunities are project based and we do our best to match your skills and interests with areas in need of support.

 Here are a few examples of past or ongoing volunteer projects. Please note that many of our opportunities require some level of weekday (9am-5pm) availability:


  • Host a fundraising event for Smith Center
  • Build relationships with corporate partners
  • Researching, writing and editing projects

 Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery

  • Assist with exhibit opening and closing receptions
  • Photography for events and exhibitions
  • Serve on a special exhibition committee

 Marketing, Outreach & Communications

  • Distribute Cancer Support Programs Calendar and Gallery Exhibition information to local businesses, hospitals and arts organizations
  • Assemble mailings of quarterly program calendar, exhibitions and appeal letters
  • Draft website content and graphic design

 Administration & Operations

  • Data entry and analysis
  • Landscaping/gardening and building maintenance
  • Be ‘on call’ to assist with special projects

 Cancer Support Programs

Opportunities to volunteer in this area are limited. Though, sometimes we are in need of individuals who can:

  • Dedicate 15 hours per week or more to assist with planning and logistics
  • Prepare supplies and materials
  • Apply to be a volunteer facilitator (call for more information)
