If you are interested in joining this 6-week program, please email olivia@smithcenter.org.

with Charity Sade

This class is targeted toward Cancer Patients/Survivors and Caregivers/Co-survivors (partners, friends, etc…). The series will be held virtually from 6:30-8:30pm (ET) for 6 weeks.

Participants are expected to attend at least 5 of the 6 classes, so please only register if you can make this commitment. Classes begin on Thursday, September 22nd and run through Thursday, October 27th.

In this 6-week course with instructor Charity Sade, cancer survivors and co-survivors will learn how to prepare, polish and perform a five-minute stand-up comedy or comedic storytelling piece by working on timing, delivery, story structure, and comedy writing.

Each week, the class will be led by Charity Sade, and a guest comic, who will run through writing exercises, performance skills and techniques (e.g., how to hold a mic, where to stand, etc). The attendees will also get the opportunity to “workout” their material during each session, with guided feedback from the instructors and their peers.

Classes begin on Thursday, September 22nd and are weekly on Thursdays for 6 weeks from 6:30-8:30pm ET. Participants are expected to participate in at least 5 of the 6 classes. Please contact us at 202.483.8600 or erin@smithcenter.org if you have any questions about this program.

This project is supported by a grant from the Rotary Foundation of Washington, D.C.

About Charity Sade

Charity Sade is an up and coming comedian from Indiana, but has resided in Washington, D.C. for the last 8 years.

She has performed across the country, and won a new comic competition at Greenwich Village Comedy Club. Within her first year of comedy, Charity made her festival debut at the 2018 DC Comedy Festival as well as the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival.

She has always used humor to get through difficult moments in her life, including her breast cancer diagnosis at age 27. On stage, she takes her difficult life experiences and turns them into relatable, humorous tales. Her comedic superpower is her ability to make you simultaneously laugh and cringe.

Charity is the creator and founder of Comedic Relief: Coping Through Comedy. You can catch Charity hosting, producing, and performing on shows across the DMV.
